    2011 Ford Ranger

According to this article on automobile.com, Ford is debuting the 2011 Ranger, but not in the USA. What is up with all these manufacturers starting in Europe and Australia with their vehicles? Some still aren't available in the US from a couple years ago!

When is it too late to learn to drive?

There are a lot of older people who did great things, but I'm not sure she would equate any of their accomplishments with driving. I think if she doesn't want to learn, you probably won't be able to persuade her. If she can manage to get herself from one place to another, maybe it's better to...

    For a new driver

My son is almost old enough to get a permit. We have access to both automatic transmission and standard. Which do you think would be better to use to get him started?

    How do they do it

I don't know, but I would guess they don't. They probably kick 'em off. I don't see how on earth they could drive that way, either! (I don't know how they WALK in them, either!)

    Ninja 250R

From what I've read about it, it sounds like it would be a very good starter bike. They aren't excessively expensive, either; a new one runs around $3,000.

    Anything cheap and nice?

My son got a Yamaha Virago, and it was a good starter bike. If you can find one, it should be fairly inexpensive (though it may need a little work, since it will probably be an older bike).

    Fleas and cars

I've heard that regular table salt will kill them. You might get a couple pounds (it's pretty inexpensive) and try covering your carpet and upholstery overnight, then vacuum it out in the morning.

    Squeaky

My 1999 Dodge Grand Caravan is making a squeaking noise from the engine. It seems like it might be a belt, but tightening it seems to make no difference. Is there anything else it could be?

Does Anyone Else Change Tires For The Season?

It isn't necessary here in the southeastern US to change tires for different seasons. Since it rarely snows or ices here, the same tires work for all seasons.

    Driving while sleepy

I think driving tired is a very dangerous situation. It is better to pull off the side of the road and take a nap than it is to continue driving when you know your reactions are impaired by tiredness.

    Does Driving Stick Save Gas?

I think anything automatic is by default going to use more fuel (of whatever sort) than anything manual, generally speaking. While you'd think that an automatic would be better, since it's computer controlled - it's also true that cars *can* be made to get 100+mpg but they aren't because of...

    How to rate?

According to the New York Times, they're trying to figure out how to rate fuel economy on electric cars. I can see how this would be a problem, since they won't be using gasoline like our current vehicles!

    Psychologically-Fueled Performance

A tune up. While it's true that new spark plugs and spark plug wires improve performance for real, I think that my perspective makes me think it's improved a lot more than it really is!

    Bumper Stickers

I love bumper stickers! I don't actually have any at the moment. I think my absolute favorite, though, is the one that says, "Rock is dead! Long live paper and scissors!"

    Sliding Doors! Bah!

I think they do need regular maintenance - both oiling the moving parts and making sure the tracks are clear. The track on the bottom of the sliding door of our van is terrible about collecting up dirt and trash, just from people walking over it.

    Car Talk

Have you ever listened to Car Talk? It's a talk show with Tom & Ray Magliozzi (tagged on the show as "Click and Clack, the Tappet brothers"). They answer questions about car repair and maintenance. They're good, and have a great sense of humor! I'm not sure where to find them these days...

    Check Your Wheels

Thanks for the heads-up! It makes sense that the rim can be at fault occasionally. How often is one expected to change the rims on a vehicle? I think I've only ever heard of changing them if the original ones are damaged (like in a wreck or something), but it sounds like it might need to be done...

    Buying Online?

I haven't purchased a car from eBay, but I have purchased car parts and motorcycle parts. I haven't had a problem thus far, but of course your mileage may vary. Always ask the seller any questions you have BEFORE you bid!

    Charging stations for electric cars

Already they are beginning to be arranged. Best Buy is planning to host Blink EV charging stations. I'm sure their competitors will follow shortly, because that's the way it usually works!

    Electric cars, this is happening

That's true! I have a friend who has one. They can go a very long distance with theirs, though, because it's a hybrid and not straight electric. Still, a distance as far as Canada to Florida would require several charging stops, I would think. I expect hotels and motels will eventually offer...
